It's just a short walk down the road to the white sands and sparkly blue waters of Waihi Beach, voted by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 beaches in New Zealand. Beach front cafe, the Flat White, is only a short walk away as is the local shops perfect for last min ice for cocktails, lollies or ice creams on hot days! Nearby Waihi Beach village (2 min walk) is full of boutique shops, fantastic restaurants and cafes, a small supermarket and award-winning butcher making this area full of everything you need for that perfect getaway! The beaches nearby are wonderful for walking, shell collecting, swimming, surfing or playing in the sand. There are many great walking and biking tracks in the area including the famous Mountain Bike trail through the Karangahake Gorge. This trail is great for any age as is very flat but scenic, you pass over bridges, through tunnels and explore the old gold mine and waterfall. Bike hire is possible in Waihi town or the Waihi Beach village. This beach house is in an ideal location to explore the Bay of Plenty. Tauranga is a 1-hour drive, and Coromandel is 1.5 hours. The Karangahake Gorge is 20 minutes away for wonderful walking and exploring as well as a winery, restaurant and café, a waterfall and bike trails. Hobbiton is only an hours drive away and the famous Waitomo Caves or Rotorua both 1.5-2 hours away by car. Auckland International airport is also only 2 hours drive.
